-Students will review citing textual evidence, poetry devices, RACCES strategy, theme, & argumentative writing
Station Rotations:
1. Dreams & Harlem poems-students will analyze the two poems and identify the imagery and its meaning and the common theme. Students will write an acrostic poem using the word DREAMS.
2. Harlem Night Song- Students will read the poem and identify the tone, audience, speaker, lines, stanzas, imagery and purpose
3. Metaphors, Similes & Imagery poem-Students will write their own similes and metaphors and create an imagery poem based on a scene or event that they can remember.
4. & 5. Langston Hughes excerpts- Students will read “Wealth”, and excerpt from “The Big Sea” and an excerpt from “The Life of Langston Hughes”. Students will answer comprehension questions, identify the allusions, assonance, & theme. Students will also compare these three passages to “Thank You, Ma’am” to determine the common theme and cite textual evidence to support the common theme. (Kindness)
5. Argumentative Writing- Students will peer edit and grade each other’s argumentative essay using the rubric and checklist provided. I will conference with students after the essay has been peer editied.
6. Read Theory, Reading Plus or Nitro Type-technology station
