No School on Monday, January 20, 2020 ( MLK day)


1/21-Continue working on argumentative essay (Final Draft is due Friday, 2/14)

-Students will peer edit 2 of their classmates essays and their own essay based on the argumentative rubric used for Milestones. Students will assign their essay a grade (based on peers feedback and their own feedback) and that grade will be averaged together with their 20 question pretest given on 1/7. Students will also compare and contrast their essay with the 2 exemplar essays that they received in class on Friday, 1/17.


1/22-1/23- Ethos, Pathos & Logos

-Students will take notes on Ethos, Pathos, & Logos and complete an activity as a whole group.

-Student will then complete an activity on E, P, L individually. We will go over the activity in class and students will keep the notes and activities in their binders/notebooks.

-Students will analyze, annotate and answer short constructed response questions based on the informational article. Students will then identify the Ethos, Pathos and Logos in the article.


1/24- Argumentative Essay Mentor Texts

-Students will identify the parts of an argumentative mentor text.

-Students will answer comprehension questions

-Students will compare and contrast a persuasive essay vs. an argumentative essay.

-Students will draft their argumentative essay intro paragraph


Grades for the week:

-Read Theory (must be on a 7th grade level or higher). I will average this together with next week's scores.

-Informational article- annotations, questions, and ethos, pathos, logos activity.

-Argumentative Essay mentor texts

-Argumentative Essay-Introduction paragraph is due Friday by the end of class.
